For starters, what is IONIQ or IONIQ 5, you might ask. IONIQ is a sub-brand EV (Electric Vehicle) model of Hyundai.
With a goal to produce around 1 million zero-emission vehicles by 2025 and achieve a 10% market share in this sector.
The South Korean brand Hyundai recently announced the creation and development of Ioniq, a sub-brand dedicated solely to 100% electric models, promising a greater connection for a better experience on board and also outside the car.
Hyundai has taken a simple approach to name its future EV vehicles under the IONIQ brand.
The first vehicle of this new brand will be the IONIQ 5. A compact SUV and will be launched later this year by February or March 2021. The car will first be available in South Korea and eventually worldwide.
After the IONIQ 5 release, more cars will be manufactured by the company. The next vehicle is projected to be released by the year 2022 and will be named IONIQ 6.
In fact, by the year 2024, Hyundai plans on introducing three different models.
Some of the features:
The IONIQ 5 looks very promising with very angular triangle lines. The body lines almost resemble that of the new Hyundai Tucson. In fact, The IONIQ 5 sizes up with the New Hyundai Tucson, though the wheelbase will be longer and the inside roomier.
The car has a futuristic look to it and looks like a utility vehicle from the side. The concept vehicle features double sliding doors (not sure if those will make it to the final production model.)
It also features a large screen for infotainment. Hyundai will introduce a feature where the passenger can type on the dashboard and interact with it while the driver stays focused on driving. The car will be using Hyundai’s new modular platform called E-GMP.
Hyundai says that you can drive up to 310 miles with a single charge, and thanks to the E-GMP platform, other models will be able to do 0-60 within 3.5 seconds. (Note that this is significantly lower than what the competition currently has to offer.)
The battery will also be modular and in one unit which will enable battery replacement in the future. It will feature a multi charging port, which Hyundai says is a world’s first because you do not need any converter.
Nothing has been released officially yet, but pre-orders have been made available in Australia, and the car Will be made available on the market in Korea around February or March 20201.
More information will be made available around February, as Hyundai is planning a reveal event for the Ioniq 5. It will be the first Ioniq model to arrive in the U.S., possibly by the end of the year.
