Anker — New MagSafe Alternative For Your IPhone 12?

Following the release of the iPhone 12 back in October 2020, we’ve seen more and more third-party companies manufacture iPhone 12 accessories, from chargers, MagSafe accessories, and phone cases.

The latest MagSafe accessory is coming from the tech giant, the industry leader in mobile charging, Anker.

For starters, Anker is an electronics brand known for producing computer and mobile peripherals (Power banks, earbuds, headphones, speakers, charging cables, screen protectors, as well as many other categories.)

What is MagSafe?

One noticeable aspect of the Anker MagSafe charger is that the USB connector is slightly bigger than the one you’ll find on Apple’s MagSafe charger.

The reason for such a big USB connector is because certain components had to be moved into the actual USB connector. Some of the components that would normally be found in the Qi portion of a Qi wireless charge pad were moved into the USB port.

This adjustment has led to a bigger USB connector. On the flip side, this type of technic has allowed an unobtrusive design with only 0.3 inches thickness to the charging pad to remain as low profile as possible while clipped to the back of your phone.

Apple’s Magsafe technology can deliver a wireless charge up to 15 W while Anker’s one is limited to 7.5 W, partially because of the design language, Anker wanted to make it as small as possible. It is worth noting that this Anker MagSafe charger does not offer all the features you will find on Apple’s MagSafe charger. However, it will be working in place of Magsafe.

For some users, the power reduction could be worth the trade-off in price, and for others, it might not be enough to use Anker in place of Apple.

It is also worth noting that Anker does not include a wall charger with purchase, similar to Apple.
