As we all know by now, Apple recently announced the release of a new pair of headphones, which was quite a surprise to most of us because Apple has only made earbuds up until now.
The news broke earlier this week, and the headphones will be available by December 15 from the apple.com website, in the Apple stores app in the US and more than 25 other countries and regions. The headphones will also start shipping on Tuesday, December 15.
Being new in the consumer headphones market and considering their reputation, we expect the new Apple Airpods Max to be a game-changer.
Straight out of the box, they come with a protective Smart Case, a USB Type-C to lightning cable. It is important to note that there is no adapter and no audio cable included in the box. Apple, however, will offer more accessories on their website.
The headphones are pretty unique in terms of design, made of a stainless steel flexible frame, and the earcups are made of aluminum, giving them a premium feel with a mesh band at the top for flexibility.
In terms of new and features, we get:
• Removable cups: Each ear cup attaches to the headband through a revolutionary mechanism that balances and distributes ear cup pressure. The cushions connect to the earcups with magnetic technology. The ear cushions are exchangeable since the headphones are not water or sweat-resistant. It is also important to note that you can choose the cushion colors when purchasing new ones.
• Controls: The Apple headphones do not offer touch control on the earcups. Instead, they come with a digital crown like the one we find in the apple watch. The digital crown provides features like volume control, answering calls, and media controls. There is also an extra button for noise cancellation. Each ear cup features three outward-facing microphones to detect environmental noise, while one microphone inside the ear cup monitors the sound reaching the listener’s ear. The noise cancellation feature continuously adapts to the headphone fit and movement in real-time.
• Transparency mode: With AirPods Max, you can switch to Transparency mode to simultaneously listen to music while hearing the environment around you. Making sure your voice sounds natural while the audio plays. Switching between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode can be done with a single press using the noise control button.
• Battery Performance: The headphones come with a battery life of up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio enabled. They come with a soft, slim Smart Case that puts AirPods Max in an ultralow-power state that helps to preserve battery charge when not in use. The Headphones do not have a power button. Instead, you would need the case to activate the ultralow-power state.
• Automatic switching & Audio Sharing: This feature allows users to move sound between iPhone, iPad, and Mac. When playing music on Mac, users can easily take a call on iPhone, and AirPods Max will automatically switch over. Audio sharing makes it possible to easily share an audio stream between two sets of AirPods on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV 4K. Just bring the AirPods Max near the device and connect with a single tap.
The Headphones will come in five colors, Space Gray, Silver, Green, Sky Blue, and pink. The customization will also range from the headphones to the ear cups and ear cushions. The only downside you might have to note is that you cannot fold the headphones, and the case does not provide extra protection for the frame or the earcups. Considering all the details above, you can decide whether the new Apple Airpods Max headphones are worth it for you despite the $549 price tag compared to what is already on the market at the moment.
