In this article, I will show you how to backup your WordPress website with UpdraftPlus, just in a couple of clicks. And I will go over some of the features you get when using this plugin.

Which is to put all the odds in your favor, to prevent any future issues that could break your website.
First thing first, you will need to install the UpdraftPlus plugin.
1.Install UpdraftPlus
As you already know, you need to access your WordPress dashboard to install a plugin: Go to Plugins > Add Plugins
Type UpdraftPlus into the Search Bar. Select the UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin and click Install Now > Activate.
2.Set up the UpdraftPlus Plugin
Once you’ve installed and activated the plugins, you will be redirected to the main page, Backup / Restore.
Here you can backup your website right away! You also get more options so you can learn your way around the interface.
The first thing you should do is to backup your website manually.

This step is pretty straightforward. You will see a blue button that says “Backup Now”

UpdraftPlus lets you schedule backups so you can focus on other tasks.
To access this feature, go to Settings > Files backup schedule/Database backup schedule.
You can also select when you’d like the plugin to initiate each backup. Your options are:
- Every 2, 4, 8, 12 hours
- Daily
- Weekly
- Fortnightly
- Monthly
Select one of the options based on how often you update your website.
Once you’ve set the settings to your likings, scroll down and click Save Changes.
— Choose where to backup your Files
UpdraftPlus gives you the option to backup your data where you see fit. They offer up to 12 backup locations.
You’ll find this option on the settings page, right below the backup scheduling option.
Here’s a list of destinations where you can backup your data:
- Dropbox
- Google Drive
- Google Cloud
- Amazon S3
- Rackspace Cloud
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Microsoft Azure
- FTP
- DreamObjects
- OpenStack Swift
- Updraft Vault
Select which option seems best to you and click on Save Settings.
The easiest backup setup/location seems to be Google Drive.
Your Gmail account comes with 15GB of free storage that is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.
If you choose Google Drive as your backup destination, follow the prompts and accept all the terms and services.
PS. Each storage solution has a different integration process, simply follow the instructions provided for whichever service you choose.

— How to restore your backup with UpdraftPlus?
Restoring your backup is as easy as uploading it to the cloud.
Go back to the Backup/Restore page, scroll all the way down to Existing backups
From here you will see all the data you’ve backed up so far, and click on Restore.
Next, you will be asked to select which components you would like to restore. You can select one or multiple options depending on what you’d like to restore.
- Plugins
- Themes
- Uploads
- Others
- Database
Once the files have been retrieved from the remote location, all you will need to do is follow the instructions in the popups.
