Opera joins the Artificial Intelligence Race – Opera to add ChatGPT features to its browser

Opera to add ChatGPT features

Well who here thought Opera, the browser, was done?

Well, the team at Opera would disagree! The team has announced plans to integrate AI-powered features from ChatGPT and Google Bard into upcoming releases on the browser.

The company plans to add these features to the browser’s sidebar.

The first feature Opera will test is a “Shorten” button, which will quickly generate a summary of the currently viewed article. The browser will generate a bullet point summary of the article in a sidebar window.

Bye-bye newsletter and hard-working news outlet? We think not.

Quick side note, Opera is not the first browser to add new AI features. Opera to add ChatGPT features should not come as a surprise.

Microsoft has also announced that they will be adding AI features to the Edge Sidebar, allowing users to use AI as an assistant with multiple smart features.

Opera will also add several AI-generated content services to the browser sidebar but hasn’t revealed what they will be as of now. We’re all eager to see what they come up with.

What’s driving Opera to add ChatGPT features?

The company believes that with the increasing amount of content generated by AI, and services like ChatGPT, users will need help processing all the information.
Which, we might just agree with; after all, all, or almost all successful people at the top need the help of an assistant.

Why not allow everybody access to an assistant (a virtual one in this case) to help with day-to-day tasks to make life better?

Opera states that they’re excited to take advantage of the rise of generative intelligence and believes this is the beginning of a new era of creativity on the web.

The company is using Google’s APIs for its generative AI services and will be able to access Google’s Generative Language API in March.

Krystian Kolondra, EVP of PC Browsers and Gaming at Opera, says “we’re reshaping the browser to allow our users to tap into all these resources and to unfold their full potential in the best possible way.”

Per Wetterdal, Head of Strategic Partnerships and AI at Opera, “we are excited to see the rapid roll-out of developer programs for solutions such as Google Bard and are starting to build and roll out new experiences in web browsing that not very long ago seemed impossible to achieve.”

We’re all curious to see how this AI craze unfolds as we go. Please subscribe to our newsletter so we can keep you updated about everything happening in the Tech world!
