How does wireless charging work?

In general, there are 3 main ways for wireless charging to work. Without sound too technical, even though it already does sound technical, there are many charging pads available on the market today. Some charge through tightly-coupled electromagnetic inductive or non-radiative methods, and others use radiative electromagnetic resonant methods that can transmit a charge over short distances from transmitting coils to receiving antennas in devices due to an electrical resonance phenomenon. And the third one has uncoupled radio frequency (RF) wireless chargers that allow for trickle charges at a great distance using RF waves that bounce off of walls and other surfaces near where your device is sitting.

This article is about wireless charging for phones, so we can keep it around the phone charging technologies. On a smaller scaler or when it comes to phones.

Wireless charging is made possible thanks to an electromagnetic coil. The induction coil in a charging base creates a magnetic field and is basically an antenna that transmits a field of energy, that energy being the power that is transferred to your phone. A second smaller coil in the phone receives and harvests the energy and its circuitry converts it back to usable energy for the battery.

Though, it’s worth noting that in the past decade, wireless charging has been a great innovation for people looking to cut down on their time spent tethered near an outlet. With very few devices that are able to wirelessly charge other than smartphones and tablets, this technology can be seen as more of a luxury rather than a necessity.

About the company making the epic pad charger

The technology itself called “Qi Charging” is a registered trademark in many jurisdictions. According to Wikipedia: “Qi is an open interface standard that defines wireless power transfer using inductive charging over distances of up to 4 cm, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium. The system uses a charging pad and a compatible device, which is placed on top of the pad, charging via resonant inductive coupling.”

While many companies are making this type of artsy wireless charger, the technology itself is not tied to one company in terms of manufacturing rights. Anyone with a genius idea could use the Qi Charging technology we see with wireless charging pads

However, more companies like EpicStuffStore are leading sales of this type of wireless charging pad called Epic Pad Charger.

Here are some fun facts about wireless charging to date:

-Wireless Charging has been around for over a decade now

-Wireless charging is being used in the Healthcare industry (Although the technology is still being developed to better suit the medical industry)

-It’s very possible that you’re unknowingly using a wireless charging device

-Wireless charging has so many common uses that we don’t even know.
